On April 30, the Addison Trail Library Media Center (LMC) hosted its fifth annual Poetry Slam in celebration of National Poetry Month.
The following Addison Trail students shared their talents: freshman Emily Cetin, sophomore Kenneth Delacruz, freshman Sophie Cetin, sophomore Sophia Helmers, sophomore Gergana Harizanova, sophomore Michelle Roberson and sophomore Sofia Tavizon. LMC staff members Maryellen Marisie and Josie Loizzo also joined the fun and shared a few of their own beloved poems.
The “Slammers” expressed themselves to show their love for and power of the written word. For more information about National Poetry Month, go to https://poets.org/national-poetry-month.
“Honestly, the LMC is still reeling from all of the energy that was in the room,” Loizzo said. “Their words were powerful, and the performances were electric. It takes a special kind of bravery to stand up on a stage and share your creativity, and this year's Slammers nailed it! Whether they were seasoned performers or it was their first time, they were so good it felt like we were watching artists paint with their voices! Bravo!”
April also is School Library Month (www.ala.org/aasl/advocacy/slm), and the LMC celebrated by hosting an ice cream social for staff.
