Exploring careers in health care and forensics: District 88 continues to expand career pathway opportunities/experiences

On April 9, about 25 Addison Trail students had an opportunity to explore careers in health care and forensics during a visit to the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.

The experience was coordinated by District 88 Director of Student Career Development Iridia Nevarez and Addison Trail Counselor Mario Fernandez, in partnership with Eduardo Castillo, Lieutenant at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (who is a 2004 graduate of Willowbrook and an Addison Trail parent). The trip gave students who are interested in medical and forensic fields a firsthand look into this critical work.

One key takeaway that was shared with attendees is there is a significant shortage of forensic pathologists nationwide, highlighting a strong need for future professionals in this area. Participants walked away with a deeper understanding of how these careers combine science, investigation and service to support communities and bring answers to families.

District 88 is committed to providing multiple and flexible pathways for students to ensure they are college and career ready and continues to partner with colleges/universities and local businesses to expand these experiences.
