Addison Trail Boys Basketball Team recognizes senior for reaching 2,000-point scoring milestone

On Jan. 14, the Addison Trail Boys Basketball Team recognized senior Luke Smith (pictured above, with his parents) for reaching the 2,000-point scoring milestone. He was presented with a commemorative basketball to honor this tremendous achievement.

Smith accomplished this feat on Dec. 27 during Addison Trail’s game against Dunlap High School at the State Farm Holiday Classic. Heading into the Jan. 14 game, Smith’s 2,115 points tied him for 107th in the history of Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Basketball, which was founded in 1900. The Blazers competed against Fenton High School on Jan. 14 and won, 59 to 35.

“Beyond the numbers, Smith has been a role model for younger players in the Addison community and in the Addison Trail Boys Basketball program,” said Brendan Lyons, Addison Trail Boys Basketball Team Head Coach. “He exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership. I have had the honor to coach Smith during the last four years. Reaching 2,000 points is a testament to his dedication and passion for the game. Smith embodies everything a coach can ask from a player. Everyone knows his talent level is extraordinary. Everyone knows what a dynamic scorer he is. What many people don’t see is the work ethic that has gotten him to this point. He is humble, unselfish and willing to work at both ends of the floor. He is respected by his teachers, teammates and opponents alike. He is the most complete player I have ever coached. With aspirations to play at the collegiate level and beyond, this milestone is just the beginning of what promises to be an extraordinary journey for Smith.”
