Addison Senior Club donates items to Addison Trail’s Blazer Relief Center to help students in need

On Sept. 24, Addison Trail received a generous donation to the school’s Blazer Relief Center. That program collects food, hygiene items and clothing for students and their family members who are in need of basic necessities.

Addison Senior Club (a club for senior citizens that’s sponsored by the Addison Park District and supported by the Village of Addison) donated more than 1,500 items to the center.

The purpose of the Addison Senior Club is to provide recreational and social experiences for people who are 55 years old or older, but it also strives to provide a feeling of usefulness and a chance to participate in civic affairs. Along with philanthropy, the club has weekly activities such as line dancing, pinochle, mahjong and exercise for seniors. The club also hosts parties, lunches and trips. To inform members about upcoming events, the park district publishes a printed newsletter called Senior Highlights.

Along with the Blazer Relief Center supply drive, the club supports the Addison Township Food Pantry and volunteers for various park district and village events. Members who attend the weekly meetings contribute to the Red Cup charities. A different local charity – such as the VFW Auxiliary, Marklund or the Addison Police Department Special Olympics – is selected each month. So far this year, the club has donated more than $2,000.
