Addison Trail hosts assembly to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month

On March 6, Addison Trail hosted an assembly to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM).

According to https://nafme.org/student-opportunities/music-in-our-schools-month, “For nearly 40 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®) … to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community and to display the value that school music brings to students of all ages.” This year’s theme is “I See Music Education.”

During the assembly, Addison Trail students and staff enjoyed performances by the school’s Chamber Strings, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble and Mariachi Band, as well as pieces composed by students enrolled in Music Production. To view photos from the event, see the gallery above.

The Addison Trail Music Department is led by Department Head and Band Director Mark Corey (who will retire at the end of this school year), Choir Director Jeff Nellessen and Orchestra Director Alex Stombres.
