Addison Trail BEYOND Club attends Chicago Football Classic to learn about HBCUs

On Sept. 2, members of the Addison Trail BEYOND Club attended the Chicago Football Classic, an event that showcases historically black colleges/universities (HBCUs).

Addison Trail’s BEYOND club is led by adviser VaLarie Humphrey and provides mentorship and academic support for black students to enable them to thrive holistically in high school and BEYOND.

The Chicago Football Classic took place at Soldier Field and included a variety of activities:

  • HBCU College & Career Fair
  • Teen Fest - A Youth Empowerment Gathering
  • Tailgating
  • Battle of the High School Bands
  • Vendor Marketplace - Supporting Black Business
  • Divine 9 Greek Row - Pre-Game Greek Reunion
  • Football game between Central State University and Mississippi Valley State University

According to https://www.chicagofootballclassic.org/home, “The Chicago Football Classic, Inc (CFC) is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to inspire African-American high school and college students through support for programs, initiatives and events that increase awareness of opportunities to achieve educational excellence. CFC events influence students and parents to consider the rich academic and cultural opportunities offered by (HBCUs).”
