On April 4, 100 Addison Trail students participated in a field trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, which is “dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice and indifference” (www.ilholocaustmuseum.org).

The students are enrolled in English 10 Honors and AP European History and were accompanied by Addison Trail social studies teacher Laura Magnavite and English teachers Jessica Clark and Anna McSweeney. During their visit, they toured the museum exhibits to help prepare for their unit on World War II and their next novel, “Night” by Elie Wiesel.

The students also heard a presentation by Holocaust survivor Erna Gorman, who shared her experiences as a child during the Holocaust. Read more about Gorman at www.ilholocaustmuseum.org/profiles/erna-gorman.
