When members of the Addison Trail Book Club heard the Addison Public Library was coordinating a Care Con event to support mental health, they immediately wanted to get involved.
Care Con will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the library (4 Friendship Plaza in Addison) and will feature music, movement and play. Participants will have the opportunity to practice self-care with activities and crafts, as well as chances to win raffle prizes. There also will be an option to learn about community resources that provide extra support. For more information, go to https://addisonlibrary.libcal.com/event/9948076.
As part of Care Con, the Book Club created a display with the theme of “In order to see the sun, you must weather the storm.” The display is comprised of about seven books that focus on growth and positivity, as well as an interactive feature for people to list books on this topic that they recommend.
“The students are really excited about the content of the display,” said Jenna Phillips, Addison Trail Literacy Department Head and Sponsor of the Addison Trail Book Club. “They worked hard to have a diverse selection of books to promote mental health awareness. Being a part of this event allows us to continue our partnership with the library and fulfill our goal to give back to the community.”
Book Club is a group of Addison Trail students who meet once a month to discuss a book they’ve read. Members vote at the beginning of the school year on which book will be read each month. The group also has movie nights and volunteers with the Addison Public Library. For questions or more information, contact Phillips at jephillips@dupage88.net or 630-628-3396.
