Addison Trail students learn about the Mexican holiday Día de Los Reyes

Students in Addison Trail world language teacher Kathleen McColaugh’s Spanish classes recently studied and celebrated Día de Los Reyes, a Mexican holiday that takes place on Jan. 6 and represents the day the Three Wise Men (Los Tres Reyes Magos) visited and gave gifts to baby Jesus.

Students wore crowns to recognize the day and were able to try Rosca de Reyes (or King’s Cake), a traditional sweet bread in the shape of a wreath. Three figurines were hidden inside the bread, and the pupils who received the figurines will host a party on Feb. 2.
