On March 2, Addison Trail hosted an assembly to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM).
According to the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) website (www.nafme.org), “For more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the NAfME for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools throughout the nation. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.”
This year’s theme is “Music: The Sound of My Heart.” For more information, go to https://nafme.org/programs/
During the assembly, Addison Trail students and staff heard performances by the school’s Chamber Orchestra, combined choirs, Guitar Ensemble, Music Production class and Wind Ensemble. To watch the assembly, click on the video above. To view photos from the event, see the gallery below.
The Addison Trail Music Department is led by Department Head and Band Director Mark Corey. The choir was directed by Rebecca Boisse, and the Orchestra Director is Alex Stombres.
