In celebration of Homecoming Week (which took place from Oct. 4 to 9), Addison Trail students gathered on Oct. 6 at the football stadium to cheer on their classmates during the Homecoming Blazer Bowl (previously known as the Powder-Puff Game). Student Council changed the name this year to make it a more gender-inclusive event.

The Blazer Bowl consists of pupils flipping what is perceived as the “typical” roles for high school students during a football game. Essentially, the girls play flag football, while the boys cheer them on from the sidelines throughout the night.

The freshmen and sophomores competed against each other in a game of soccer. The sophomores won, 4-0.

After the soccer game, the juniors and seniors prepared to compete in an intense game of flag football. As this is the last time the class of 2022 will be able to participate in the Blazer Bowl, claiming a victory was important to the seniors.

“It was something that we could take back and have to ourselves as a senior class after missing out on previous high school experiences,” said Madelyn Ford, member of the Senior Blazer Bowl Team. “For me personally, I wanted us to win because that is the last Powder-Puff (Blazer Bowl) I will get to play, and I had to make it count.”

With the support of the boys cheering them on, the seniors managed to win a close game against the juniors, with a final score of 42-35 – leaving the seniors ecstatic about their triumph. They crowded onto the field, chanting “seniors” and embracing one another.

“I felt excited for my team and the whole class of 2022 with our victory,” said Andrea Parent, member of the Senior Blazer Bowl Team. “Running onto the field after the win was amazing, and the school spirit was through the roof.”

Following tradition, the school’s annual bonfire took place after the Blazer Bowl. Students were able to socialize near the fire and enjoy music provided by a DJ.
