Addison Trail set to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Addison Trail is gearing up to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month starting on Sept. 13!

National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year. It began in 1968 and was originally observed as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson, but was later extended to a month during President Ronald Reagan’s term in 1988.

According to www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov, “(This month) traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. (The goal is to) share history, heritage and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present.”

This is the fifth year Addison Trail will celebrate the occasion, and the school is continuing to plan events. CLICK HERE to view a Hispanic Heritage Month calendar (this document will continue to be updated, so be sure to check back often).

A Spirit Week is scheduled for Sept. 13 to 17, which will culminate with the boys soccer game on Sept. 17 (varsity will begin at 6:30 p.m. at home against Oak Park and River Forest). All community members are invited to attend the game to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
