On Sept. 26, the Addison Trail journalism and student newspaper classes attended a field trip to the Daily Herald Office Center in Arlington Heights to observe the inner workings of the media profession (pictured above).

“The trip was interesting just to see the expressions on the kids’ faces as they saw everything that goes into an operation like the Daily Herald,” said Steve Bruns, Addison Trail journalism teacher and student newspaper sponsor. “The students gained exposure they otherwise would not have experienced without the journalism offerings that exist in our school.”

Bruns said he believes aspiring journalists should see the way professionals in the industry do their job to better understand the difficult, yet exciting aspects of this career.

“I really liked how we got to see how the newspaper was built,” said Naydelin Munoz, a junior at Addison Trail. “We get to see it in movies, but this time we got to see it for real.”
