Addison Trail welcomes new School Resource Officer

A new School Resource Officer has joined the team at Addison Trail – but he’s a familiar face to the community.

Larry Biles, who is with the Addison Police Department Investigations Division, succeeds Eric Brant in that position, who served in that role since October 2017. Biles said he has been shadowing Brant since May to ensure he’s successful as Addison Trail’s School Resource Officer. Biles might be new to Addison Trail, but he has been with the Addison Police Department for 11 years.

“I wanted to pursue the School Resource Officer (SRO) position because I saw the lasting friendships and connections the prior officers had with the community,” Biles said. “Being a SRO means providing security to the students and faculty, as well as a resource to the school community.”

Although Biles’ job is to enforce the law and school policies, he knows the role encompasses so much more, and he looks forward to making a positive impact at Addison Trail.

“I think most people’s first encounter with the police is usually a negative one such as getting a ticket or getting pulled over,” Biles said. “I want to have positive interactions with the students as much as possible, so if they ever have contact with the police in the future, they will draw from positive memories.”

Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden said the school is thrilled to welcome Biles, and he knows Biles will continue the excellent work Brant and previous School Resource Officers have established.

“Our No. 1 priority is the safety and security of our students and staff, and the School Resource Officer position is one more way for us to ensure the well-being of everyone in our building,” Bolden said. “We look forward to working with Biles and continuing our tremendous partnership with the Addison Police Department.”
