Congratulations to Kelsey Horvath, Addison Trail’s May recipient of 88’s Best recognition. Horvath, a senior, was recognized during the May 13 District 88 Board of Education meeting.
Horvath has performed at the highest academic level for each of her four years at Addison Trail. She has excelled in multiple honors and college-level Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered at Addison Trail. At the end of her senior year, Horvath will have completed 11 honors and eight AP classes. She also has taken four years of music and four years of Spanish. Because of her academic record, Horvath is a two-time member of the National Honor Society, and she also is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
“Horvath never missed class and always went out of her way to say hi and goodbye,” said Joe Mahoney, Addison Trail business-education teacher. “Even though I had her two years ago, she still says hello every single time we run into each other in the hall. She's organized, friendly, a go-getter, creative and has a sense of humor. She always turned in all her work on time and was willing to help kids who needed a little spark in class.”
Addison Trail math teacher Anthony Cirrincione agreed.
“Horvath is one of the best young people in our building when it comes to being an all-around student,” Cirrincione said. “She is a phenomenal student and an even better person, which is pretty remarkable. She is the most polite, well-mannered individual I have had the privilege of getting to know during the past four years and throughout my teaching career. She will be a success in any endeavor she ventures into in her future – she is a star.”
Horvath also has been involved in several Addison Trail extracurricular programs. She has been a four-year member and captain of the Addison Trail basketball team, a two-year member of the volleyball team and a four-year member of the marching band. She also is a member of the Principal’s Student Advisory Team, Student Mentors, Student Council, Lettermen Club and Psychology Club and has been the Class President all four years.
Outside of school, Horvath has helped with the NEDSRA Special Olympics, the District 88 Feed My Starving Children Senior Service Project, Girls Youth coaching, Pay It Forward and Park Pride Cleanup.
“Horvath has been in Lettermen Club for the last few years and has been our Co-President this year,” said Rebecca Cibulka, Addison Trail social studies teacher and co-sponsor of the Lettermen Club. “She has always set a great example for our underclassmen by showing up for meetings, taking leadership roles and helping us out in any way possible. She is one of the reasons we were able to run a successful 5K this year, and she will truly be missed next year!”
Horvath plans to attend Beloit College starting in the fall.
