Counseling Corner: Willowbrook College and Career Center ready to help seniors with college application time

It’s senior college application time!

All seniors recently completed a survey of their post-high school plans and areas of needed assistance. Counselors used that information to determine programs and workshops to help students. Senior programs have included:

“The College Application Process”
This was a presentation given to all seniors during their English class. The presentation was repeated for parents during Senior Parent Night.

Senior interviews
Students meet one on one with their counselor to review credits, GPA/rank, post-high school plans and a checklist of things to do.

“Highly Selective Colleges”
This was a presentation with tips on how to get accepted into highly selective colleges.

“The Common Application Process”
This was a presentation to help students with the college application process.

College of DuPage (COD) Presentation
This presentation included COD’s areas of study, honors program, transfer program and more.

Warrior Time Drop-in College Application Assistance
Students were invited to stop by the College and Career Center during Warrior Time to get help with college applications.

“College Application Madness”
Counselors partnered with English teachers to provide college application assistance and essay writing assistance for seniors. College Visit Road Trip
Seniors had the opportunity to take a trip to Loyola University or North Central College. Upcoming visits include Northwestern University, Benedictine University and DePaul University.

College Visits for Underrepresented Students
This has included a trip to University of Illinois at Chicago. Upcoming visits include University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Lake Forest College, Marquette University and Lewis University.

College Rep Visits
Representatives from various colleges and universities come throughout the year to speak with students about their college/university and admission requirements. Go to Willowbrook’s website or the College and Career Center for a list of upcoming and past visits.

The new College and Career Center at Willowbrook recently had its grand opening! The center is now in the cafeteria to be more accessible for students. It will be open during lunch periods and Warrior Time for seniors to receive help with college applications. Students can use the space to access information about career options, attend college rep visits, attend career presentations, review resources for college and careers and more. For more information about the center, contact Willowbrook Guidance Counselor and College Programming Coordinator Dana Whittaker at 630-530-3421 or dwhittaker@dupage88.net
