Addison Trail hosts annual Options Fair for students with special needs and their families to learn about postsecondary opportunities and available services

On Sept. 30, Addison Trail welcomed more than 200 families (430 individual attendees) to the annual Options Fair. This event was established to offer students with special needs (who have IEPs or 504 plans) and their families an opportunity to learn about postsecondary choices and resources.

Sponsored through the collaborative effort of area high schools, this year’s fair featured 120 vendors, including colleges/universities, college certificate programs, college experience programs, careers in the trades, and agencies that provide services to youth and adults with special needs. Participants also had an opportunity to attend two presentations: An adult agency panel Q&A and information about College of DuPage access and accommodations.

“The Options Fair connects families with valuable information, resources and community partners, helping them discover opportunities and make informed choices for their child’s future,” said Alison Nix, Addison Trail Special Education Counselor.
