District 88 Board of Education Secretary recognized during IASA DuPage County Region Recognition and Awards Breakfast

On April 15, District 88 Board of Education Secretary Christine “Chris” Poirier (pictured, left, with District 88 Superintendent Dr. Jean Barbanente) was honored during the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) DuPage County Region Recognition and Awards Breakfast.

Poirier, who has served on the Board since 2021, was celebrated for her volunteer work with District 88 and the community. Poirier exemplifies all of the qualities of an excellent board member. She engages deeply with the district’s work and seeks to educate herself on issues and authentically contribute to support the district’s mission and vision.

Poirier has an extensive background in human resources and finance and always brings thoughtful ideas and feedback for consideration. She is a champion for equity and student inclusion and has wholly supported the district’s efforts to ensure all students are seen, valued and respected. Poirier’s two children graduated from Willowbrook, and she has dedicated hundreds of hours to board service, including active participation on several board committees and the District 88 Foundation.

Before joining the District 88 Board of Education, Poirier was extremely involved and active on many school committees, including the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC), Parent Transition/Reopening Committee, Willowbrook Music Booster Club and Willowbrook Parent Organization (WPO). She and her husband, Chris, also chaired the Willowbrook Music Booster Club’s Trivia Night and are dedicated supporters of District 88 fundraisers. Outside of District 88, Poirier’s past volunteer service includes membership on the St. Pius X Parish School Board and the Firebirds Soccer Club Board.

District 88 is grateful to Poirier for her continued dedication and commitment to the district’s students, families and entire learning community.
