Benefits of the AVID program for students highlighted during Remote Learning Instructional Showcase

District 88 recently shared information about AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which is designed to close the opportunity gap and prepare all students for college, careers and life. The program is provided to Addison Trail freshmen and sophomores, and the school plans to also offer it to juniors (starting next year).

During the Jan. 25 District 88 Board of Education meeting, Addison Trail Assistant Principal Courtney DeMent and Addison Trail AVID teachers Claire Sychta, Mike Rosengrant, Ryan Peronto and Shannon Le outlined the program as part of the district’s Remote Learning Instructional Showcase. Videos were shared to highlight the benefits of AVID – despite the school being in a remote environment because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
