District 88 shares important information about upcoming free cardiac screenings, Illinois 5Essentials Survey and 2020 Census

Pictured is District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton.

At District 88, our top priority is the well-being of our students and providing a high-quality learning environment to accomplish our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement.

As part of that focus, I would like to share with you four upcoming events that will take place to help us build positive futures for our pupils.

Young Hearts for Life free cardiac screenings

We have partnered with the Young Hearts for Life® (YH4L) Cardiac Screening Program, a not-for-profit organization, to offer electrocardiograms (ECGs) to identify high school students at risk for heart conditions. Edward-Elmhurst Health is generously sponsoring this free cardiac screening for all District 88 students.

This free, quick and painless screening could help identify potential life-threatening conditions. I encourage parents/guardians to take advantage of this program and register your student today. See event details below.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey

District 88 is joining the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the eighth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions, referred to as the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey provides an opportunity for students, teachers and parents/guardians to have a voice in improving their schools.

I encourage our parents/guardians to participate in the survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in our school’s learning environment. Your input matters and will help shape the future of District 88. Be sure to complete the survey by Feb. 14 at https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois.

2020 Census

In mid-March, you should receive an invitation to complete the 2020 Census. The Census is a mandate in the Constitution of the United States of America that requires a head count every 10 years. The 2020 Census will count the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories.

The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. The results will impact …

  • How much funding local communities receive for services such as health clinics, fire departments, schools (and educational programs/services), roads and more

  • How many seats each state gets in Congress

  • Boundaries for congressional, state legislative and school districts

Each home will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire, and responses can be completed online, by phone, or by mail. Your responses are used only to produce statistics. The U.S. Census Bureau is required by law to protect your answers and doesn’t disclose personal information. For more details, go to www.dupage88.net/2020Census.
