District 88 social studies department chairs participate in meeting with local colleges/universities to focus on articulation

Addison Trail Social Studies Department Chair Brendan Lyons (left) and Willowbrook Social Studies Department Chair Pete Montgomery (right) participate in the West Suburban Social Studies Chairs Network meeting on Dec. 8, when the group met with local colleges and universities to discuss articulation between those high schools and post-secondary-education institutions.

On Dec. 8, department chairs who are members of the West Suburban Social Studies Chairs Network – including Brendan Lyons from Addison Trail and Pete Montgomery from Willowbrook – met with local colleges and universities to discuss articulation between those high schools and post-secondary-education institutions.

The group shared information about social studies trends with regard to curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology and more. Other topics included the process of student teaching and providing interview skills and advice to potential new teachers. Colleges and universities that attended are Illinois State University, Dominican University, The University of Iowa, National Louis University, Wheaton College, Northern Illinois University, The University of Illinois at Chicago, Roosevelt University, Aurora University and Elmhurst College.
