Willowbrook Physical Education Expectations
Expectations for Excellence
Students will be active in daily activity, as well as being tested and evaluated on their own personal fitness level as measured by the Fitness Gram tests and other fitness-related testing.
Participation
- Students are expected to be present, in uniform and actively participating in class each day to the best of their ability. A point scale has been established to assist the teacher in determining the degree of participation. Any day of “inactivity” will result in a loss of up to 5 points. A student can fail after a total of nine days of “inactivity” in a nine-week period. A FITNESS DAY EACH WEEK is a requirement. (See Grading Policy).
- Students should wear a Willowbrook uniform, including athletic shoes.
- Sweatshirts, sweatpants or athletic warmups are acceptable.
- Other school-related T-shirts (club, activity) and school-related or athletic shorts are acceptable. No plain white, grey or blue T-shirts.
- Torn, ripped or cutoff shirts or shorts are not acceptable attire. Cargo shorts are not acceptable attire.
Miscellaneous Expectations and Rules
- Students are expected to treat other students, faculty and support personnel respectfully. Failure to do so will be dealt with on an individual basis by the teacher.
- Students should have their own locks and not share lockers with other students.
- Food and drinks are not to be brought into the gym or locker rooms.
- Glass containers and aerosol sprays are not to be brought into the locker rooms.
- Sophomores – Classroom Driver's Education/CPR and Physical Education grades are separate.
Health Education
Health Education is a one-semester course taken freshman or sophomore year. All students are required to take Health Education as a graduation requirement. The Willowbrook Health Education Department strives to prepare students with the information and skills needed to promote a healthy lifestyle. In our classroom, we teach a wellness model that integrates the physical, mental, emotional and social health, while stressing prevention, self-responsibility and informed decision making. Fitness Gram tests
- Cardiovascular Fitness - Pacer test
- Muscular Strength- Push up test
- Muscular Endurance - Curl up test
- Flexibility - Back-saver sit and reach test.
* All students are expected to test in these areas each grading period, unless they are excused for medical reasons. This is a course requirement. If you choose not to take the tests, you will be graded accordingly and risk failure for the class.
