Addison Trail auto teacher to present at North American Council of Automotive Teachers Conference

Addison Trail auto teacher Keith Santini attended his first North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) Conference in 1988 with his father, Al, who is a retired auto teacher.

This year, Santini will once again attend the conference – but this time as a presenter. The conference will take place July 22 through 26 in Quebec City in Quebec, Canada. Santini said he’s looking forward to sharing the knowledge he has gained through his more than 20 years in the auto industry with participants at the conference.

“I enjoy the diagnostic challenge that comes with working on cars, and I also love teaching students about the automotive industry,” he said.

This will be Santini’s second time presenting at the conference, and he will focus on how to rebuild three models of continuously variable transmissions (CVTs).

“Right now, CVTs are very scary for most people, and many are buying brand new transmissions instead of repairing them,” Santini said. “I’ve found with the CVTs I’ve worked on that it’s a better value to rebuild them, rather than replace them.”

Last year, Santini presented on how to prepare students for the ACT and offered tips to encourage and support students to help them perform well on that exam. He said he would be thrilled to lead a discussion again next year.

The NACAT Conference is geared toward teachers and trainers of automotive technology and its related fields.

“Auto in schools is a specialized area, and this conference is a great opportunity to converse with others in the industry,” Santini said.
