The Willowbrook fall athletic season is quickly coming to an end. Our student-athletes did a tremendous job representing us in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division and beyond and continued the Pride, Tradition and Excellence of Warrior athletics.
Below is a recap of the season.
Football: The Varsity Football Team finished 2nd in Conference with a 5-4 record. The team had some great games that came down to the last minute and even the last second. Wins at Morton and Proviso West were thrillers, and the win at home against Downers Grove South was a team highlight! The sophomore team finished with an 8-1 record and also finished 2nd in Conference.
Girls Tennis: The Varsity Girls Tennis Team finished 3rd at the Sectional meet, which was an outstanding achievement. Team leaders this year were freshman Grace Wachholz and seniors Laima Licitis, Bridget Garner and Sam Wozniak. Garner and Wozniak won two rounds at the Sectional meet, making it to the round of 8 in the doubles draw. The team dual record this year was 5-9.
Boys Cross-Country: The team was led by Captains Chris Turek (senior), Jack Garner (senior) and Casey King (junior). The boys finished 4th in Conference. At the Regional meet, all team members ran their personal best times, and the entire team qualified for Sectionals!
Girls Cross-Country: The team finished 5th in Conference. In dual meets, the girls had a record of 3-3. The team was led on the course by All-Conference runner Victoria Palma, a freshman. The team finished 5th at the Regional meet and qualified for the Sectional meet as a team!
Girls Swimming: The Addison Trail/Willowbrook Girls Swim Team has maintained its status as one of the best teams in the Conference. Overall, the team record is 6-3, and the team is led by Willowbrook senior Meghan Koterba, Willowbrook senior Melissa Johnston and Willowbrook freshman Elissa Haake. The girls finished 2nd in Conference, and there also were several individual champions. Haake won the 200-yard freestyle and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team with Koterba, Addison Trail sophomore Michelle Ramirez and Addison Trail junior Annalise Morrone. Koterba won the 100-yard freestyle and also was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay with Addison Trail freshman Natalie Obrzut, Haake and Johnston. Sectionals are coming up soon.
Girls Golf: The Girls Golf Team went through a growing period this year, as many golfers graduated last year. The team did not have a senior golfer and really learned how to compete at the varsity level. The team was led by sophomore Sophia Parrillo, junior Olivia Hartshorn, junior Maggie Karcz and junior Jocelyn Trausch.
Boys Golf: The Boys Golf Team finished 3rd in Conference. The team had an overall record of 6-8 in dual matches. The team was led by All-Conference golfers Nicholas Tiberi (senior), Matt Langer (senior), Max Sarovich (senior) and Sam Malito (junior). The team scored a season low of 346 on 18 holes at the Conference meet.
Boys Soccer: The Boys Soccer Team had a great season. The boys finished with a record of 11-7 and battled some of the state’s best teams. The team has 22 graduating seniors, who will leave big shoes to fill next year. The boys also won their Regional semifinal game 1-0 against Lake Park at Lake Park!
Girls Volleyball: The Girls Volleyball Team had an overall record of 16-21. The girls finished 4th in Conference. They also finished 2nd at the Leyden Invitational and 4th at the Willowbrook Invitational.
Poms and Cheer: The Poms and Cheer teams are gearing up for their competition season and are finalizing their rosters. For the first time in school history, both teams will compete at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) level this year!
