Willowbrook seniors Austin DeBok and John Halloran recently competed in the 2015 Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge.
On April 1, they were named as regional semifinalists in the Engineering: Secondary Education division. This worldwide online contest is for secondary and post-secondary education institutions, and participants have to redesign an existing product or create a new product that improves how a task is accomplished. Entries must be accompanied by a written description or a video, as well as a .STL file. Each entry is evaluated on creativity, being mechanically sound and being realistically achievable.
DeBok and Halloran designed an original restroom foot-pedal flusher. Their concept is to use a foot pedal that would be connected to the flusher handle, rather than having to push the handle down.
