Addison Trail Leo Club receives several awards

On Nov. 14, Addison Trail’s Leo Club was honored with several awards and recognitions.

Leo Club offers students opportunities to expand on their leadership and teamwork skills and is comprised of members from the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County (SASED) vision program. The club, which is affiliated with the Addison Lions Club, allows students with visual impairments to understand the impact they can make on the world and gives them the confidence to succeed outside of Addison Trail.

On Nov. 14, the club was named as “Leo Club of the Year” for District 1J Zone 2, which consists of 12 clubs. Members received that honor for hosting events such as visual impairment day, diabetes awareness events, a goalball tournament, a craft fair with items made by students and a children’s book drive for students at Fullerton Elementary School.

“Because of your outstanding work this year, you’ve been chosen as our club of the year,” said John Barsanti, Chairman of District 1J Zone 2.

Barsanti then gave Leo Club President Aziz Zeidieh (a junior) a $500 check to benefit the club, and Leo Club sponsors Liz Jacobson and Deb Zufan were presented with Outstanding Supervisor awards. Also during the recognition ceremony, Addison Trail Assistant Principal Courtney DeMent was sworn in as a new member of the Addison Lions Club.
