Willowbrook junior volunteers on campaign trail

The Nov. 4 general election had extra special meaning for Willowbrook junior Christian Cloutier.

For the past six weeks, Cloutier has been working with Heidi Holan, candidate for State Representative of District 46. Cloutier said another volunteer came to his house to promote Holan’s campaign and asked him whether he would like to help on the campaign trail.

“It sounded interesting, so I wanted to try it,” Cloutier said. “I learned a lot from the experience.”

Although Holan unofficially did not win the vote for office this election, Cloutier said he enjoyed working with her and the other volunteers and would consider joining another campaign in the future. During his time on Holan’s campaign, Cloutier went door to door speaking about Holan, and he had to record which residents said they would vote “yes.” He also helped organize and deliver mailers, placed flyers at local homes and helped design a poster for the campaign. He was one of the youngest volunteers in the group.

“One of my favorite parts was getting to see all the different faces you don’t normally get to know and meeting new people,” he said. “The biggest lesson I learned is when it comes to politics, it’s anyone’s game.”
