Willowbrook names September recipient of 88’s Best recognition

Joshua Beausoleil has been named as Willowbrook’s September recipient of 88’s Best recognition for his academic accomplishments. Beausoleil, a senior, was recognized during the Sept. 22 District 88 Board of Education meeting.

As a student, Beausoleil consistently pursues the most rigorous courses available at Willowbrook. He has successfully completed 15 honors and Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level courses and is enrolled in four more honors and AP courses this year. As a result of his academic prowess, Beausoleil has maintained a class ranking within the 99th percentile and is an inductee of Willowbrook’s National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society (Civitas).

Beyond the classroom, Beausoleil has been involved in a variety of athletics, including four years of football, two years of baseball and a year of basketball. He also has been a member of Willowbrook’s New Beginnings program to assist incoming freshmen and has volunteered at the Lauren Kiefer Run, Lions Club dinner, Ardmore Elementary School’s Rummage Sale, Schafer Elementary School’s Reading Night and Mathemagician Night at Willowbrook.

“Beausoleil is such a wonderful student to work with in the sense he always comes to class with a smile on his face and a desire to learn,” said Melissa McCann, Willowbrook English teacher. “He asks questions of clarification to make sure he is doing an assignment correctly, volunteers to help me and other students in the room and adds much insight to class discussions.”

Willowbrook world language teacher Cristy Hebreard agreed.

“Beausoleil is a quiet workhorse,” she said. “He works and studies and just gets the job done. He manages to get his fellow students to work harder as well! His friendly and calm demeanor is a wonderful addition to any classroom.”

Willowbrook English teacher Tara Murphy said Beausoleil exemplifies what being a Willowbrook Warrior is all about.

“Beausoleil is truly one of the most well-rounded young men I have had the pleasure of knowing,” Murphy said. “He is kind, hardworking, incredibly humble and exactly what a Warrior should be.”

Beausoleil plans to apply to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Purdue University, where he plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
