Willowbrook assistant coach receives state award

Willowbrook Girls Soccer Assistant Coach Pete Montgomery recently received the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association’s (IHSSCA) Section 2 Assistant Coach of the Year award.

Montgomery, who has been a coach at Willowbrook for the past 20 years, was nominated by head coach Victor Marquez. Members (head coaches) of IHSSCA Section 2 voted to determine the winner.

“I am very happy and humbled to receive this award,” Montgomery said. “I really view it as a compliment to our entire soccer program, starting with Athletic Director Bob Daly and Marquez. The girls, however, are the ones out on the field every game, working hard to represent Willowbrook in a positive way.”

The IHSSCA Honors Banquet will take place on June 12 and will recognize award recipients, as well as highlight athletes who earned All-State, All-Sectional, Honorable Mention All-Sectional and Chicago Fire Academic All-State honors.

The banquet will be at Diplomat West Banquets, 681 W. North Ave. in Elmhurst. Registration for the event begins at 4:30 p.m., and the program begins at 6 p.m. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and attire is business casual. Reservations are required.
