Addison Trail Blazers continue to burn bright in athletics this year

It has been an amazing year for Addison Trail athletics.

We’ve had student-athletes from seven different sports qualify for State competition, three Conference championships and 27 student-athletes sign to play at the collegiate level. Below are some highlights from the spring season.

BASEBALL
The Addison Trail Baseball Team is a young team and is starting to put things together for the playoff push. The team has won seven of its last nine games and closed out the Conference schedule winning six of seven games. Senior Joe Kurucar’s pitching is leading the charge – he has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings pitched. During that stretch, he is 3-0 with 34 strikeouts. He also threw a no-hitter against Proviso East. Junior Jake Atiyeh and senior Frank Amato are leading the team with a .333 average. The team will ride this momentum and make a run in the highly competitive Schaumburg Sectional.

BOYS GYMNASTICS
The Boys Gymnastics Team capped off team competition season with a season-high score of 134.45 at the Sectional meet. The gymnasts had an exceptional meet, qualifying six athletes to the State meet (see the article below for details). The team finished 3rd in Conference behind Willowbrook and Downers Grove South and had multiple All-Conference gymnasts.

SOFTBALL
The Softball Team is in the midst of its most successful season in several years, with a current record of 13-12. The season has been highlighted by several individual efforts by seniors Corin Cooney, Danielle Ciaglia, Kelly Baumgartner and Crystal Marinelli. The season includes a 2nd-place finish at the Antioch Tourney and wins versus Montini, Fenton, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Leyden and Hinsdale South. The Blazers will host the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Regional on May 27 and 31.

GIRLS SOCCER
The Girls Soccer Team has more than 100 girls participating this year, and the varsity team includes three freshmen, three sophomores, seven juniors and six seniors. The team got off to a great start, winning its first game 7-0 against Mount Assisi. The team lost the next two games, but the girls never gave up. With hard work, they went on to win their next two games against Larkin and Ridgewood.

BOYS TENNIS
The Boys Tennis Team ended its dual-match season with a 7-0 victory against Proviso East. The team’s dual-match record was 7-6 for the season. Their best finish in tournaments was at the District 88 Classic, where they took 2nd place overall. The team’s 1st singles player, senior Forest Beulle-Birkett, and 1st doubles team, senior Camden Knights and sophomore Alex Franco, took home 2nd-place medals at that tournament. The team hopes to finish in 3rd or 4th place in today’s Conference meet.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Boys Volleyball Team has an overall record of 23-3, after winning their first 11 matches of the season. The team won the Rolling Meadows and York tournaments and has defeated state-ranked Deerfield and Glenbard West. The Blazers are ranked in the top 20 by the Chicago Sun-Times.

GIRLS TRACK
At the Conference meet, the Varsity Girls Track Team was just edged out of 3rd place and came in 4th place. The following members of the Girls Track Team placed at Conference: Sophomore Lynnette Banuelos, freshman Lauren Kroll, junior Kim Schonder, senior Kaleen Smith, senior Janely Sanchez and junior Maria Dugo.

GIRLS BADMINTON
The Girls Badminton Team had many girls step up their game this season. They finished in 4th place at the Conference tournament, and the following girls qualified for individual accomplishments: Junior Kinga Kaczowka, sophomore Rebecca Falash, junior Izabela Kantor, senior Amber Mell and junior Daniella Gonzalez.
