On April 23, Addison Trail Assistant Principal Mike Bolden presented with Addison Police Department Detective Commander Joseph Maranowicz about District 88’s mock active-shooter drill that took place on March 1, 2013, at Addison Trail.
Bolden and Maranowicz presented to deans, administrators and school resource police officers from throughout DuPage County at the DuPage Regional Office of Education Center for Professional Learning in Lombard. They shared lessons learned from the drill at the school level and the police department level.
District 88 worked with local officials and agencies to conduct the drill, which featured a full demonstration of an active-shooter scenario to help ensure District 88 and the other agencies are equipped to maintain the safety of students and staff during an emergency.
“The presentation (by Bolden and Maranowicz) was the epitome of the best this county has to offer,” said Dr. Joseph Gust, Assistant Regional Superintendent for DuPage County. “The scale and depth of the safety drill that was conducted is extremely impressive. Even more than that, the willingness to share and the ability to communicate by Bolden and Maranowicz was something … to be proud of! Thanks again for the willingness to share the lessons learned!”
Bolden said District 88 will continue to present about the drill this summer at countywide events.
