Addison Trail hosts heroin awareness presentation

On March 18, Addison Trail hosted a heroin awareness presentation to educate students and parents/guardians about the heroin issue in DuPage County and throughout Illinois.

The presentation was hosted in conjunction with DuPage County, the DuPage Regional Office of Education and the Addison Police Department. Angelica Selvaggio, Despina Pirozzoli and Felicia Miceli with the LTM Heroin Awareness and Support Foundation Inc. shared their story of how heroin has affected them through the loss of their cousin/son Louie Theodore Miceli, after whom the foundation is founded. Recovering heroin addict Nick Gore also spoke about his journey and the negative impacts of heroin.

Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden also presented about the dangers and realities of heroin. DuPage County Coroner Dr. Richard Jorgensen said in 2013, there were 46 heroin-related deaths in DuPage County. That number surpasses the county’s record of 38 heroin-related deaths in 2012.

After the presentations, audience members participated in a question-and-answer session.

District 88 is committed to helping put an end to the heroin epidemic in the county and will continue to support the county to ensure the safety of students.
