Addison Trail to host International Fest Week and International Dance

From March 4 to 7, Addison Trail will celebrate International Fest Week.

Throughout the week, students will enjoy programs and presentations about cultures from throughout the world – including some presentations by their classmates.

And on March 7, students will take the stage for the International Dance. The show will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature 18 dances that represent 16 countries. Tickets cost $7, or $6 with a Senior Gold Card or Activity Pass. Children who are 3 years old or younger are admitted for free. For tickets or more information, contact International Dance co-sponsor Mirela Mehmeti at mmehmeti@dupage88.net or 630-458-4178. Other co-sponsors of the International Dance are Annette Severino and Lily De La Torre. Mehmeti said the show continues to grow, as new dances representing new cultures have been added the past few years. She said she recommends guests arrive early to ensure a good parking space and seat.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to ChildrenUP, an organization that helps students in northern Uganda be advocates for their education.

“This event is all about celebrating the various cultures of the students at Addison Trail,” said Addison Trail senior Arleta Arizi, leader of the show’s Albanian dance. “I hope the audience has fun and enjoys the music and performances.”

Senior Bolor Bat-Erdem is the leader of the Mongolian dance and said she’s excited to perform in her third International Dance this year.

“I love being a leader with this event and making people smile,” Bat-Erdem said. “It’s wonderful to share my culture with others.”
