For the ninth year, Addison Trail celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
This year’s theme was “De nuestras raíces, nos levantamos” (“From our roots, we rise”). The school recently hosted a variety of activities to recognize this important event, including:
A spirit week from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4:
See the flyer below for each day’s theme.
Friday, Oct. 3:
Addison Trail’s commons area came alive with the sounds of celebration during a special Hispanic Heritage Month Concert, which took place during lunch periods. Students and staff enjoyed live performances from three incredible student-led bands – Grupo Quimera, Los de la Clave and Mariachi de Addison Trail – who showcased the vibrant rhythms and rich cultural traditions that define Mexican music.
Students wore this year’s official Hispanic Heritage Month T-shirt, as they filled the commons with energy and color. The event not only highlighted the talent of Addison Trail musicians, but also served as a reminder of the school’s strong sense of community and cultural pride.

According to https://hispanicheritagemonth.gov/about.html, “Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.” It began in 1968 and was originally observed as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson, but was later extended to a month during President Ronald Reagan’s term in 1988.
District 88 and Addison Trail celebrate the cultural diversity of its student body, as about 50 languages are represented among the district’s families. District 88’s core values include fostering an inclusive environment and a sense of belonging, where all students, staff and community members feel safe, valued, respected and welcome.
