Addison Trail Theatre invites all students, parents/guardians, alumni, staff, community members and friends to enjoy an evening of entertainment and fun, as the school presents its fall play, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again],” on Oct. 16, 17 and 18.
According to https://www.broadwayplaypublishing.com/the-plays/the-complete-works-of-william-shakespeare-abridged-revised-again/, the production features “all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays, meant to be performed in 97 minutes, by three actors. Fast paced, witty and physical, it’s full of laughter for Shakespeare lovers and haters alike.”
Eighteen Addison Trail students will take the stage to bring Shakespeare’s classic stories to life – but with a comedic twist.
“It’s a unique experience: We each get to incorporate our personality into the characters, and the audience will have an opportunity to participate in the performances,” said cast members junior Edyana Castillo, sophomore Rowan O’Hara and senior Lilia Zielinski. “Audience members will get to see Shakespeare in a different light, and we guarantee you will laugh at least once.”
Addison Trail Theatre Director Anna McSweeney said her goal is to perform Shakespeare about every four years, so students are exposed to these iconic works. And McSweeney is working double duty this school year, as she also is directing the Illinois High School Theatre Festival All-State Production of “Newsies.” To accommodate both shows, McSweeney said the crew has had to be creative with the set, and the student leaders – including Assistant Directors Hunter King and Emelia Marano (both juniors) – have put in extra effort.
“I hope people have fun, with a light evening of comedic education,” McSweeney said. “The show will be a wonderful escape to forget about the rest of the world for a bit.”
