On Oct. 8, 34 Addison Trail students attended a welcome event to kick off the school’s English Learner (EL) and Newcomer groups for the 2025-26 school year (pictured above).
During the event, members of the group – who are known as Los Trailblazers (The Trailblazers) – shared information about their home countries and future plans, while enjoying lunch together. The gathering also was an opportunity for the students to get to know the staff members who coordinate the EL and Newcomer groups. Data was shared as well, to highlight the group's successes from the 2024-25 school year.
This year, nine students (who are pictured above, first photo) will serve as leaders within the program and will help mentor their peers. Throughout the school year, Los Trailblazers will meet and participate in activities such as canoeing, rock climbing and completing a high ropes course. The goal is for members to celebrate where they come from and to look ahead/plan where they’re going. Los Trailblazers helps pupils connect, meet new peers from various backgrounds and grow academically and socially.
