Addison Trail students participate in end-of-year celebration for English Learner (EL) and Newcomer groups

On May 7, Addison Trail hosted an end-of-year gathering for the school’s English Learner (EL) and Newcomer groups to come together and celebrate. To view a photo gallery, see the images above.

During the event, the students – who are known as Los Trailblazers (the trailblazers) – enjoyed lunch and laughs; shared memories and reflected on the 2024-25 school year; and displayed trees of life they created to honor their cultural roots/home countries, as well as their present successes and future goals.

Staff members presented seniors with a stole to wear during graduation, shared data points and congratulated the students on areas of improvement. Highlights include:

  • Students increased their resiliency scores in all areas surveyed.
    • The most growth was seen in the areas of “people can rely on me, I am determined, and I can handle many things at a time.”

  • Students reported feeling more connected to/a part of the school, closer to people at school and safe/happy at school.

  • 84 percent of the students are currently passing all of their classes.

Throughout the school year, the groups met and participated in activities such as canoeing, rock climbing and completing a high ropes course. Those outings allowed students to face their fears and build confidence and also challenged them to aspire for more in their personal and academic goals.
