Willowbrook Art Department shares student successes, events

On April 21, seven Willowbrook students participated in the Northern Illinois High School Art Exhibition at Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago.
That event is part of the Illinois High School Art Exhibition (IHSAE) and is hosted by Art ConnectED. Student work is accepted in the categories of drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, mixed media time arts, and photography.
According to https://www.artconnected.org, “Art ConnectED believes the visual arts are a powerful force in culture and education, enriching the lives and endeavors of humankind. Our mission is to advance art education for young people by providing art exhibition and education opportunities that celebrate students' artistic achievement, promote mastery and ingenuity in learning, and facilitate post-secondary opportunities.”
Below are the Willowbrook students who competed:
- Junior Nina Young (Young also participated in the Art Throwdown competition, a live, fast-paced visual arts event, where students put their artistic skills to the test in a competition against other area high-schoolers)
- Sophomore Norah Luedtke (Luedtke was awarded an honorable mention in the category of sculpture for her “Bug Hat”)
- Senior Olivia Delgado
- Sophomore Josephine Parkinson
- Senior William Vince Vega
- Senior Brandon Carrillo
- Senior Enana Abdulhussain
- Abdulhussain and Carillo were offered more than $370,000 in scholarships from a number of schools.
ART EVENTS:
- On April 11, art students from Willowbrook and Addison Trail visited the Bridgeport Art Center to view the Northern Illinois High School Art Exhibition.
- From April 30 to May 2, the artistic talents of Willowbrook students will be on display during the school’s annual Spring Art Exhibition. A reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 1 at the school.
