District 88 provides travel-abroad experience for students: Expanding the classroom to Italy

During the April 22 District 88 Board of Education meeting, Addison Trail students who traveled to Italy from March 21 to 29 shared their experiences and thanked the Board, the administration and chaperones Iridia Nevarez (Addison Trail Assistant Principal), Amy Ferraro (Addison Trail English Department Head) and Daniela Ariano (Addison Trail reading teacher) for their support of travel-abroad experiences (pictured above).

Twenty Addison Trail students participated as part of the Village of Addison Sister Cities student-exchange program with Triggiano, Italy. An agreement signed in 2004 was to encourage friendship and understanding between Addison and Triggiano. Addison Trail hosted a group of students and adults from Italy this past October, and details about that visit can be viewed at https://dupage88.net/site/page/15820.

During their travels in March, students stayed in Rome and Triggiano, where they attended school at Liceo Cartesio. To view photos from the trip, go to www.dupage88.net/ItalyTrip2024.

Village of Addison Mayor Rich Veenstra, Co-President of the Village of Addison Sister Cities Committee, also attended the Board of Education meeting.

The Village of Addison Sister Cities Committee is made up of volunteers and is always looking for new members to ensure these experiences continue. Those who are interested in joining the committee can contact Marianne Fotopoulos with the Village of Addison at mfotopoulos@addison-il.org.
