Addison Trail student-musicians participate in masterclass with CSO trumpet player

On May 15, about 150 Addison Trail student-musicians had the opportunity to participate in a masterclass with Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) trumpet player John Hagstrom (speaking in photos above).

Hagstrom presented to band, orchestra and choir members about practice skills and time management. Hagstrom joined CSO in 1996 and previously was principal trumpet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra in Kansas. He also was an assistant professor of trumpet at Wichita State University.

In 2006, Hagstrom helped initiate Dream Out Loud, a music-education advocacy partnership between Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and Yamaha Corporation of America. Through that initiative, he developed a variety of resources for elementary through high school students, their teachers and parents. The resources are designed to support students’ music education and provide encouragement through times of challenge.
