Mission Statement: District 88 mission: To work for the continuous improvement of student achievement. Through that mission, District 88 schools have been named as Top Schools in America by Newsweek and the Washington Post.

District 88 shares information about the Every Student Succeeds Act ‘College and Career Readiness’ Indicator

In 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed as a new education law that reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the U.S. national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. The previous version of the law was the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, which was enacted in 2002.

The ESSA will be implemented on the Illinois Report Card this October and will use multiple measures (referred to as indicators) to evaluate schools. Each individual school (rather than the overall district) will be rated on those indicators and then placed into one of four categories (referred to as designations). Those designations are:

For more information about the ESSA, view District 88’s presentation at www.dupage88.net/StrategicPlan2018.

When looking at District 88’s current Strategic Plan from 2010, the Board of Education, administration and stakeholders knew the value of including multiple measures to ensure student growth and achievement. As a result, the district’s vision and goals are very much aligned with the ESSA, as seen in the image below (click to enlarge the image).

District 88 is updating its Strategic Plan to retool and enhance the existing plan and will meet with a variety of stakeholder groups to gather their input and feedback during this process.

During District 88 Board of Education meetings, the district will take a closer look at the ESSA indicators by which high schools will be measured. The district also will share how its vision and goals are aligned to those indicators, as well as successes in each area.

During the Sept. 24 meeting, District 88 shared information about the “College and Career Readiness” ESSA Indicator and how student participation in extracurricular activities/workplace experiences is one way Addison Trail and Willowbrook are meeting that indicator. The administration highlighted the objectives for Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) at the schools and outlined the district’s tiered levels of support, as well as specific programs available at each tier of intervention. One way the district seeks to support students is by creating a sense of belonging through participation in athletics and extracurricular activities. The administration also discussed the results of the student workplace survey from Semester 2 of the 2017-18 school year, where students shared whether they were employed during the summer or school year and whether they participated in community service activities.
