District 88 thanks staff, Board members in honor of American Education Week and School Board Members Day

During the Nov. 13 District 88 Board of Education meeting, District 88 recognized American Education Week and School Board Members Day. Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton thanked the District 88 staff and Board members for their passion, dedication and service.

American Education Week took place from Nov. 13 to 17 and provides a time to celebrate public education and honor those individuals who are building futures for students. Dr. Helton said District 88 educators serve as teachers, coaches, mentors and more for all students to help them succeed inside the classroom and beyond. Staff members work tirelessly each and every day to accomplish the district’s mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement. School Board Members Day took place on Nov. 15, and this year's theme was "Leading by Learning." School Board members serve their communities without monetary compensation to make public education the best it can be for every child. Their policies and oversight guide the district as tough decisions are made on complex education and social issues that affect the entire community and individual students. District 88 Board members spend countless hours attending meetings, events and workshops to ensure students receive a high-quality education. The District 88 Board is comprised of President Donna Craft Cain, Vice President Jay Irvin, Secretary Sharon Kucik and members Thomas Edmier, Timothy Gillen, Blanca Jessen and Mark Turk. Dr. Helton also acknowledged the villages of Addison, Lombard and Villa Park for honoring American Education Week and School Board Members Day through proclamations, messages on their marquees/local cable stations (pictured below) and overall support of District 88.
