Counseling Corner: District 88 to partner with local high schools for regional Options Fair

At District 88, our mission is to work for the continuous improvement of student achievement – and we focus on making sure each student reaches his or her full potential.

As part of that mission, Willowbrook and Addison Trail will participate in an Options Fair on Oct. 18, which is a free regional post-secondary planning fair that specializes in services and resources for students with an IEP or a 504 Plan. Area high schools have partnered to host this fair for our students and parents.

More than 30 universities and colleges, as well as multiple outside agencies, will be in attendance to discuss post-high school and transitional options. There will be five presentations throughout the night on the following topics:

  • Transitioning from high school to post-secondary: Tools for success
  • Preserving your mental health in college: How to advocate for your mental health needs
  • Navigating the college search process for students with learning challenges
  • Student success programs at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
  • Mobile applications for education

The Options Fair will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Oak Park and River Forest High School, 201 Scoville Ave. in Oak Park. The plan is to rotate the fair among the partnering schools each school year. A bus will be provided for District 88 families and students who would like to attend, but need transportation. The pickup time will be 5:15 p.m. at Addison Trail and 5:45 p.m. at Willowbrook. If you would like to take the bus, please pick up a permission slip in the Student Services Office at Willowbrook or the Guidance Department at Addison Trail and return it by Oct. 14. Permission slips also were mailed home.
