District 88 shares important legislative update

As part of our mission at District 88 to keep our stakeholders informed, I would like to share with you an important legislative update.

Senate Bill 231
In the April 29 District 88 Newsletter, I discussed Senate Bill 231, which seeks to change how school districts are funded by the state. Senate Bill 231 was passed by the Senate on May 10 and is now being considered by the House of Representatives. The bill will redistribute more than 3.5 million dollars in General State Aid away from District 88 annually (when at 100 percent). It includes all the provisions in the former Senate Bill 1, with the addition of:

  • A new adequacy grant
  • A new hold harmless – 100 percent for one year
  • Pension parity

Senate Bill 231 would put District 88’s high academic achievement, quality staff and excellent programs at risk. For more information about Senate Bill 231, go to http://tinyurl.com/hj6e3ke.

We will keep you updated as we receive more information about this bill and other legislative initiatives, and thank you for your continued support of District 88.
