District 88 shares important information about House Bill 696 and Senate Bill 231

As part of our mission to keep our stakeholders informed and up to date, I would like to share with you information about two new bills that would negatively impact District 88.

House Bill 696
The Illinois House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 696, which includes a permanent property tax freeze. This bill will now go to the State Senate, and hearings will take place before the Senate votes. Under House Bill 696, District 88 would lose $530,000 annually for every 1 percent of CPI-U (that loss will compound over time). Senate Bill 231
Senate Bill 231 is an update to Senate Bill 1 and would change how school districts are funded by the state. The proposed school funding formula could take $3 million of state support away from District 88. For more information about Senate Bill 231, go to http://tinyurl.com/hj6e3ke. Senate Bill 231 includes all the provisions in the former Senate Bill 1, with the addition of:

  • A new adequacy grant
  • A new hold harmless – 100 percent for one year
  • Pension parity
