District 88 2015 state report card highlights student successes

At District 88, our mission is to work for the continuous improvement of student achievement.

Each and every day, District 88 works to build positive futures for its students inside the classroom and beyond. The results of the 2015 state report card show the successes of District 88 and reflect the efforts of staff, Board of Education members, students, parents/guardians and community members. Those results are just one tool the district uses to continue progressing.

Highlights of District 88’s 2015 state report card include:

  • Graduation rate: District 88 continues to be above the state level with its graduation rate. District 88’s four-year graduation rate is 88 percent, compared to the state’s 85 percent. District 88’s five-year graduation rate is 91 percent, compared to the state’s 88 percent.
  • Ready for College Coursework and Student Growth: District 88 is right at the state level in terms of the percent of students who meet the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks. The district is within four percentage points of the state level with regard to the percent of students who scored at least a 21 (composite) on the ACT and therefore are classified as Ready for College Coursework. We continue to look to improve in this area, and we maintain our focus on making sure each individual student reaches his or her academic potential. We’re thrilled to share members of the class of 2015 who attended District 88 for at least three years showed more growth from their EXPLORE test score to their ACT exam score than the national average in English, math and science.
  • Freshmen on Track: District 88 is above the state level in terms of the number of freshmen who are on track to graduate from high school. District 88 is at 84.2 percent, compared to the state’s 83.4 percent.
  • Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level courses: In 2014-15 and 2015-16, nearly 1,400 District 88 students participated in Advanced Placement (AP)/college-level courses. Those classes provide students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. The district also has partnered with several local colleges and universities to offer students more than 20 dual-credit courses, which also allow them to earn college credit before graduating from District 88.

5Essentials Survey results:

We are proud of the survey results for District 88 and will use that information as another tool to continue fulfilling our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement. To view the 5Essentials Survey results, go to https://illinois.5-essentials.org/2015/.

Assessments:
Last year, Illinois implemented new state assessments, called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exams. The results of those assessments have not yet been released, and the Illinois State Board of Education has informed us that data will be available later this school year. We plan to implement the exams again this year to students enrolled in ELA 1 (English 9) and Algebra 1. We also will continue to offer the ACT exam to ensure our students have the testing they need to pursue a post-secondary education.

Thank you for your continuous support of District 88.
