District 88 focuses on achievement for all

At District 88, we’re committed to making sure we provide opportunities for all students to be successful.

As part of that initiative, our curricular focus this year is the implementation of common assessments at Addison Trail and Willowbrook. For the past two years, teachers at both schools have worked together to create common assessments aligned to state and national standards. Those assessments serve as benchmarks of what students need to know and do by the end of each course. District 88 teachers also have been aligned this year through course teams, called Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), which meet for an hour once a week to discuss student performance and strategies to best help students succeed. By aligning our courses to the most rigorous standards and working together as teams of teachers, we at District 88 continue the journey of supporting our students in their efforts to be college and career ready.

To complement the instructional objectives outlined above, and to provide an equity lens to our work in District 88, we are collaborating with the Illinois State Board of Education to close the academic achievement gap that exists throughout the country between white students and other student subgroups. We also are monitoring our discipline rates for disproportionate representation of minority students. To that end, District 88 has joined countless school districts throughout the U.S. in cultural competency training to provide staff with the tools necessary to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

We are proud of the work our staff and students do each and every day to make District 88 one of the top school districts in the country, and we look forward to increasing our skills in the area of cultural competency to ensure all of our students are given the chance to achieve at the highest levels.
