At District 88, summer break is a time to prepare for the upcoming school year

It might be summer break, but at District 88, we’re busy making sure everything is ready for students when they return for school on Aug. 19.

Staff members have devoted numerous hours to summer curriculum work, and they will come together in early August for several workshops to prepare for the 2015-16 school year. New staff members also will attend a New Teacher Orientation Day.

While that curriculum work is critical, we also are making sure the buildings are set. The Buildings and Grounds staff has maintained more than 1 million square feet of facilities and more than 130 acres of land to ensure the best learning environment for our students.

As we plan for the 2015-16 school year, important information about registration can be found at http://dupage88.net/site/page/3979

It is our goal for the 2015-16 school year to ensure all of our students develop high-level skills and knowledge that will support college and career readiness and prepare them for successful post-secondary experiences. The District 88 Mission and Vision will shape our work for the coming school year. Our focus and initiatives this year will include continuing the great work that takes place in District 88 through:

  • Continuing to close the achievement gap to ensure all students are successful
  • Expanding measurement and assessment practices to monitor and promote student growth (This past year, Illinois schools implemented the new PARCC assessments. We appreciate your support as we transition to this new exam, and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.)
  • Continuing to look at best practices with regard to technology to ensure the district remains on the cutting edge and provides students with 21st-century skills – we must always provide our students with an education that is focused on what they will need in the future, not just today
  • Maintaining a comprehensive curriculum and school environment to build futures for all students, while remaining fiscally responsible
  • Partnering with parents/guardians and community members to maintain support systems that reinforce high student performance
  • Continuing our open, honest and transparent communication with all stakeholders

District 88 offers our students a meaningful and comprehensive educational program that provides a strong foundation for success beyond high school, and the 2015-16 school year will provide yet another opportunity to expand on our accomplishments. I would like to thank you for your support of our programs and staff members and for your partnership in “Building Futures” for the students of District 88.
