Students participate in annual West Suburban Conference Sports Spectacular

A photo gallery from the event will be added soon!

On April 29, Willowbrook hosted the annual West Suburban Conference Sports Spectacular, bringing together more than 600 individuals from schools throughout the conference (including students with a variety of abilities, peer leaders and staff).

The day began with an energetic Opening Ceremony to welcome all participants. This year’s event featured a Space Jam theme, providing a high-energy environment where students could explore a variety of interactive stations/activities.

The field house and gyms were buzzing with excitement, as participants enjoyed the following activities:

  • Carnival-style games
  • Balloon badminton
  • Basketball
  • Beach ball volleyball
  • Karaoke
  • Cosmic bowling
  • Just Dance
  • Face painting
  • Friendship bracelet making
  • Space Jam Bingo

Two sensory locations also were available for students to relax and take a break, including a special showing of the 1996 classic movie “Space Jam.”

The Sports Spectacular was founded by the West Suburban Conference athletic directors and continues to thrive as part of the conference’s commitment to promoting inclusion for all students. The event was originally championed by retired Addison Trail physical education teacher Sheri D’Ambrose, who envisioned an atmosphere where every student could experience the joy of sport and community. District 88 looks forward to keeping this tradition going for years to come.

The success of this year’s event was made possible through the dedicated leadership of Willowbrook staff members Rachel Karos, Gabby Fulton, Hannah Walsh, Tara Murphy, Anthony Gebhart and Tim Ortiz. Their efforts were supported by more than 150 student peer helpers, who volunteered their time to guide participants and ensure a memorable experience for everyone involved.
