District 88 names Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Chi Sigma Omega Chapter as February Business Partner

During its Feb. 2 meeting, the District 88 Board of Education, along with the administration, named Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Chi Sigma Omega Chapter as a Business Partner. The Business Partner program recognizes companies, organizations and individuals for their support in building futures for District 88 students and helping to accomplish the district’s mission and vision.

The chapter is a prime example of a group working with the district to achieve its goals. According to www.chisigmaomega.org, “A legacy of commitment to academic excellence and service to all mankind has been the mantra for which the members (of the sorority) have served for over a century.” President Megan Clark and other members of the chapter attended the meeting.

For the past three years, the chapter has been instrumental in supporting the district’s BLACKtopia Conference, which was implemented by District 88 Student Success Coordinator Dr. VaLarie Humphrey. That event focuses on enhancing leadership, learning and legacy through dynamic speakers, presentations, workshops and sessions for students and parents. The conference continues to grow, and more than 370 students and parents participated this year.

This unique gathering wouldn’t be possible without partners like Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Chi Sigma Omega Chapter. The following are just a few examples of their incredible involvement and generosity. The chapter has:

  • Provided an average of 100 or more volunteers each year, ensuring strong operational and student support throughout the conference.

  • Served as a financial partner to assist with the conference execution.

  • Contributed to community impact efforts through hands-on initiatives, including donation collection, sorting and distribution.

  • Collaborated with the district to help plan and implement the conference from concept to successful completion.

“This partnership reflects a consistent commitment to service, collaboration and meaningful community engagement, and it continues to strengthen the impact of the BLACKtopia Conference each year,” Dr. Humphrey said.
